Tuesday, April 29, 2008 Before going too deep into this, let me establish a few fundamentals.

I consider luxury items to include things like movies, cable, internet,
a car, health care, you know stuff like that. Other than for buying a house, I
consider "Credit" to be a bad thing for everyone, and I have reservations about
that.

With the advent of bank cards, cash is almost an obsolete form of currency
and they make it possible for any one to live within their means without the
need for credit.

Politics . . . .

Wow. The most public topic in our society if not our lives and yet the
most intensely personal of subjects.

In the most basic terms, I suppose each of us want public officials who
will do what's best for us. The difficulty is that what's best for me
is not necessarily what's best for you, or so it would seem.

Let me see if I can put a worthy example together.

Let's say I am very wealthy with a yearly income in excess of six figures
which comes from the sales of non-necessity items. Although I've heard
of the fifty percent tax bracket, I've never been subjected to it but if I
was you can be sure that I'd do everything in my power to find ways to
minimize the actual taxes I pay.

Trust me, you'd do the same if you were in a fifty percent bracket.

If the average American "Blue Collar" worker has a thirty percent tax bracket
I'd have to be crazy not to object. So now let's say that a bill is submitted
to Congress that would reduce my tax obligation to twenty Percent That
would seem on the surface to be a good thing for me. This would mean that for
every $1,000 I earn my tax would be $200 instead of $500. I don't think anyone
wants to have to earn $2 to keep $1.

On the other hand . . . Mister average is still paying $300 out of
every $1000.

Now I suspect that in reality that my six figure income probably depends
on mister average having money to spend some where. Since I got my tax break,
the government is having to get by on mister average's 30% which means federal
funding of programs gets cut which puts people out of jobs and dumps them into
competition with mister average for income.

Pretty soon mister average is having trouble keeping up with the cost of
necessities and has no leftover for a few luxuries, as a result, my six
figures is becoming five.

Ok. This is all hypothetical, I made it all up, none of my figures are
accurate in any way, but the principle is sound.

Economic growth results from Mister Average having enough money to cover
his necessities plus some for a few luxury items. Mister Average is the one
who sustains our economy and my six figures.

A word about "minimum wage" and the "Poverty Level".

The "poverty Level" in this country needs to be appraised in the following
manner:

Each individual requires and is entitled to by virtue of citizenship these
fundamental necessities:
a)Food
b)Clothing
c)Shelter
d)Transportation
e)Eductation
f)Basic Healthcare

Only after these "fundamental necessities" are covered can anyone be
considered as above the poverty level. The annual cost of each of these items
can be calculated to a minimum amount necessary to earn in order to be covered.
This minimum annual income amount should be equated to represent "Minimum Poverty
Level" income.

My Political Opinion number ONE:
1) Everyone who earns more than "Poverty Level Income" should be
taxed at the same percentage rate for each dollar above "Poverty Level
Income". No one who earns less than "Poverty Level Income" should be
taxed at all
